Originally designed for marine use on ships, the swinging ring frame allows the candle cup to remain upright regardless of the surface angle. The base, which serves as a drip tray when placed on a table, has a small bracket on the back which allows the chamberstick to be mounted on the wall. It also has a finger loop for safely moving the candle from place to place.
